What happens when an electric VTOL aircraft loses all propulsion? The SKYFLY AXE has a surprisingly old-school answer: use the wings and glide. In this video, we take a deep look at the Skyfly Axe eVTOL, a two-seat electric aircraft designed to combine vertical takeoff with conventional wing-borne flight. Unlike many multicopter-style eVTOLs, the Axe can use VTOL when no runway is available, perform short takeoffs when space allows, and fly efficiently on its wings during cruise. But the most interesting feature is its emergency capability. Skyfly says the Axe is designed to remain controllable during a complete propulsion loss while in wing-borne flight, allowing the pilot to glide toward a landing using conventional aerodynamic controls.
