Aubrey | The Wordless 1980s Cartoon That Spoke Volumes Through Sound Effects and Music

A small orange blob, a huge nose, and a shed full of hammers... sound familiar? 🔧🟠 Directed and produced by Derek Phillips, with animators including Martin Chatfield, Andy Wagner, Rose Welsh and Joanne Gooding, the show ran for just one series of 39 colour cartoons, each lasting six minutes. The star? Aubrey – a small, round, orange character with a huge nose who found himself in all sorts of adventures. Often playing the role of an inventor, he would retire to his shed to build his way out of trouble, accompanied by lots of loud hammering. Episode titles included classics like "Aubrey's Boat", "Aubrey's Garden", "Aubrey and the Beanstalk", "Aubrey Discovers Soap", "Aubrey's Fire Engine" and "Aubrey Plays Golf". With its simplistic artwork, animation and music, it became a popular favourite. Sadly, despite its 39-episode run, only six episodes have ever been released on DVD – making this a true hidden treasure of 80s ITV!
