Resident Evil Requiem, stylized as RESIDENT EVIL requiem, known in Japan as BIOHAZARD requiem (バイオハザード レクイエム baiohazādo rekuiemu?), and casually termed as Resident Evil 9, is an upcoming survival horror video game developed by Division 1 and published by Capcom. It is the next mainline entry in the series following Resident Evil Village and is scheduled to be released on February 27, 2026.
Requiem follows the naming convention started with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard in prioritising names over numbers, with the announcement teaser featuring a 'glitch' of the Q becoming a 9 to mark it as the ninth mainline entry.[1] It is also the first game in the series to have Latin American Spanish dubbing
Similar to Resident Evil Village's Gold Edition which allowed players to switch between first and third person perspectives, Requiem features the ability to change the perspective view at any point during gameplay depending on player preference.
"A body has surfaced at an abandoned hotel in the Midwest, the latest in a mysterious string of deaths throughout the United States.
FBI intelligence analyst Grace Ashcroft has been assigned to the case—in the same place where her mother was murdered eight years prior. But when word gets out that a police officer has gone missing at the hotel, veteran agent Leon S. Kennedy is also dispatched to the scene.
Resident Evil Requiem takes place 28 years after the Raccoon City Destruction Incident and focuses on a new protagonist, Grace Ashcroft, daughter of a survivor of the incident. Requiem has been stated to be a more "mainline" entry in terms of plot, as opposed to the Winters duology.[1] The game will feature characters with ties to the Raccoon City Destruction Incident
As Grace and Leon's paths converge, they must face their pasts and uncover the truth behind the Raccoon City Incident that changed the world forever. But while the terrors of their memories echo in their minds, will they relive the nightmare...or finally offer up a requiem for the dead?"
Requiem features two styles of gameplay in accordance with their characters. Leon's sections are more action-heavy, while Grace's are more horror-focused.[1] Grace is able to arm herself with weapons such as pistols, but her firepower and combat skills are negligible when compared to Leon. In close quarters, Grace can push against Zombie enemies, but little else. Stealth features as part of her gameplay.[2]
Leon's gameplay is assault-focused, and he is able to easily handle Zombies in close quarters with moves such as a roundhouse kick.[2]
Grace is able to use firearms, and makeshift weapons such as glass bottles. Leon will be able to utilize melee weapons such as a Hatchet and Chainsaw as well as hand-to-hand combat via onscreen executables, similar to Resident Evil 4
The game uses the RE Engine, which Capcom has used since 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Thanks to major graphical and technological improvements, most items and characters use photorealistic visuals, as well as the environment with the characters able to shown their micro-expressions.
Even if the player uses first person gameplay, Grace will still be seen in third person during cutscenes.[3]
Capcom and NVIDIA have also partnered up to optimize the game for a wide range of PCS, including PCs with entry-level specs and added support for both DLSS 4 and path tracing.
For the first in the series, Resident Evil Requiem is designed in first person and third person perspective that can be optionally switched in the menu. First person perspective is designed in a similar manner as Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, being a first person game with survival horror gameplay mechanics and third person perspective uses an over-the-shoulder third person shooter camera angle which bears resemblance more to the Resident Evil 2 and 3 remakes.[4]
Although It's suggested within the game to play in first-person which is the default option, both point of view's have unique interact ability within the environment, in third-person Grace is seen to be stumbling and falling to the ground occasionally but that is balanced out to the fact the stalker enemy is noticeably catching Grace less compared to first-person, in first-person view Grace does not stumble whilst running but is more vulnerable to the stalker enemy.
