DHENKANAL DIARIES — KEONJHAR CHAPTER III | EPISODE 02 🏍️🔧
CB350 RS Wheel Damage — Repair or Replace?
What happens when a pothole damages your motorcycle's front alloy wheel in the middle of a night ride?
In the previous episode, our journey through Kanjipani Ghati and the forest roads of Keonjhar took an unexpected turn. While riding behind a truck on the Sambalpur–Kolkata highway stretch at around 7 PM, I hit a series of potholes that caused a hard impact on my Honda CB350 RS's front wheel.
The incident happened along the forested stretch near Kanjipani, leaving me worried about the condition of the rim and whether I could continue the journey.
With limited options available at that time, I managed to reach Keonjhar after several stops to check and manage the front tyre. I then stayed at my friend Abhinav's room for the night.
The next morning, it was time to find a solution.
🔧 THE ALLOY WHEEL REPAIR STORY
Along with my friend Preetam, I visited a local lathe-work and engineering workshop near Gandhi Chowk, Keonjhar, to explore whether the bent alloy wheel could be repaired.
The process involved several steps:
1. Arranging the required L-key to remove the wheel.
2. Dismantling the tyre from the wheel.
3. Separating the rim and brake components.
4. Using workshop tools and controlled heating to work on the bent rim.
5. Reassembling the components and fitting the tyre back onto the wheel.
It was an interesting experience to witness how a local engineering workshop handled the repair. The overall cost came to approximately ₹1,000.
This video documents the actual process, the challenges we faced, and what I learned from the experience.
⚠️ A NOTE FOR FELLOW RIDERS: A bent alloy wheel can affect tyre seating, handling and braking safety. This video is a record of my experience, not a DIY repair guide. Always have a damaged wheel inspected by a qualified professional, and replace it if its structural integrity cannot be assured. Never rely on repeated tyre inflation or pressure as a substitute for a proper inspection.
🏍️ WHAT'S NEXT?
The wheel repair story is just one part of our Keonjhar adventure. In the next episode, we head towards Bhimkund Waterfall, one of the exciting natural destinations of this chapter.
