What Happened to Coke Studio? | The NuWAV Debate

Coke Studio has changed. From the early seasons under Rohail Hyatt, to Strings, to Zulfi’s completely different approach, and now Coke Studio New Wave, the project has gone through some very different phases. And every time it changes, there seems to be a conversation about what Coke Studio is supposed to be. Should it have stayed closer to the original sound? Why did the music become more electronic and beat-driven? Why is there so much more emphasis on visuals and video production now? And most importantly, did Coke Studio actually have a choice? In this video, I look at how Coke Studio has evolved over the years, why each major shift happened, what changed under different producers, and why I think the current conversation around New Wave is more complicated than simply saying that the old Coke Studio was better. I also talk about the possibility of Coke Studio eventually bringing back an "original" or classic-style season alongside the newer direction. Where do you think Coke Studio is heading? And what do you want Coke Studio to become? Let me know in the comments. #CokeStudio #CokeStudioNewWave #PakistaniMusic
