#bengaljukebox ♦️ Songs of Rabindranath Tagore ♦️ To celebrate 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence, Bengal Foundation organised Srijone O Shekore, a 5-day arts festival, from 14 to 18 December 2021, at Bengal Shilpalay, Dhaka. Supported by BRAC Bank, the festival featured performing arts, visual art, crafts, books, film, readings, and events for children. Over 300 singers-musicians-dancers-craftspersons-artists performed on stage and engaged in various kinds of programming at the festival, over the five days. Mainur Rahman Khan enthralled audiences with his rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s Je tomay chhare chharuk at Ganer Jhornatolay, on the second day of the Srijone O Shekore arts festival. On stage, Mainur was accompanied by Iftekhar Alam Prodhan on the Tabla, Mustafizur Rahman Turjo in the Harmonium, Asit Biswas in the Esraj and Binod Roy in the keyboard. Tagore’s Je tomay chhare chharuk is included in the Swadesh chapter, a classification devised by the poet himself. Set to Baul sur, the poem was first published in ‘Bhandar’ in 1905, and was composed to support the ‘Banga Bhanga Rodh’ movement. Born in Brahmanbaria, Mainur’s first lessons in music were with Radhagovind Chakrabarty, son of Amiya Bhushan Chakrabarty, the renowned Baul from the banks of the Teesta. Mainur is currently taking lessons in Rabindra Sangeet from Chhayanaut Sangeet Bidyayatan. He came out with flying colours in the young performer’s category at the national Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad competition held in 2017. In 2019, he was assigned top honours in the general category at the Sammilan Parishad competition. ┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉ Bengal Foundation has been promoting Bengali music for decades in order to nurture and uphold the musical traditions of Bengal.
