Rethymno, or Rethimno, is a city on the north coast of Crete's Greek island and is not to be overlooked when visiting Crete on your next holiday. Besides being beautiful and offering some fantastic restaurants, there are many day trips to nearby destinations. In this Greece travel vlog, we take you on the best day trip from Rethymno, a visit to the Monastery of Arkadi and Margarites Village. Our first stop while exploring the Crete countryside is the majestic Monastery of Arkadi. It's situated on a fertile plateau 23 km (14 mi) to the southeast of Rethymnon on the island of Crete in Greece. The current church dates back to the 16th century and is marked by the influence of the Renaissance. This influence is visible in the architecture, which mixes both Roman and baroque elements. Almost every spot is picturesque, and photography lovers and Instagram enthusiasts will have no difficulty finding the perfect shot. Our second stop is the village of Margarites, which is 30 km southeast of Rethymnon town. Located in picturesque green rolling hills of the Rethymnon region, the village is well known for its pottery. Be sure to stroll around this very charming village and enjoy the many pottery studios. We also enjoy a countryside lunch at a small tavern. They serve up traditional Greek food & like courgette balls, Greek salad, and souvlaki brochettes.
