I began Scotland Questions this week by issuing an important correction to the House. Previously, I had told colleagues that the UK Labour Government had provided the Scottish Government with a £47.7 billion budget settlement. Recent Treasury figures, however, show that in fact the budget settlement sits at £50 billion, the largest ever in the history of devolution. That's money for schools, hospitals and local services ... if, of course, the SNP choose to spend it wisely. Discussions then moved on to a range of topics, including the upcoming by-election in Hamilton, Larkhall and Stonehouse, where Scottish Labour's Davy Russell is offering voters the opportunity to send a message to the SNP and be a real local champion in Holyrood.
