Welcome back to *Masked Tutor!* 🥷📊 Notes for Lecture 18 - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1O7V_... In Part 18 of our *Statistics & Probability for Data Science and Data Analytics* series, we explore *Measure of Skewness* and learn how to understand the asymmetry of a data distribution. Skewness helps us identify whether a distribution is positively skewed, negatively skewed, or approximately symmetric. It is an important concept in descriptive statistics, exploratory data analysis (EDA), and Data Science. 📚 *WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS VIDEO* ✅ What is Skewness in Statistics? ✅ What is a Symmetrical Distribution? ✅ Positive Skewness (Right-Skewed Distribution) ✅ Negative Skewness (Left-Skewed Distribution) ✅ Zero Skewness ✅ Measures of Skewness ✅ Karl Pearson's Coefficient of Skewness ✅ Bowley's Coefficient of Skewness ✅ Moment Coefficient of Skewness ✅ Numerical examples and calculations ✅ Applications in Data Science and Data Analytics 📊 *1. WHAT IS SKEWNESS?* Skewness describes the asymmetry of a probability distribution or dataset. 🔹 *Positive Skewness:* The distribution has a longer right tail. 🔹 *Negative Skewness:* The distribution has a longer left tail. 🔹 *Zero Skewness:* The distribution has zero skewness; a symmetric distribution is a common example. 📊 *2. KARL PEARSON'S COEFFICIENT OF SKEWNESS* One commonly taught formula is: Skewness = (Mean − Mode) / Standard Deviation When the mode is not well-defined or is unsuitable, an alternative Pearson coefficient uses three times the difference between the mean and median divided by the standard deviation. 📊 *3. BOWLEY'S COEFFICIENT OF SKEWNESS* Bowley's coefficient uses quartiles and the median. Formula: Sk = (Q3 + Q1 − 2Q2) / (Q3 − Q1) Where: • Q1 = First Quartile • Q2 = Median • Q3 = Third Quartile This measure is based on quartiles and is less sensitive to extreme values than some moment-based measures. 📊 *4. MOMENT COEFFICIENT OF SKEWNESS* Moment-based skewness measures asymmetry using the third central moment relative to the standard deviation cubed. 💡 *WHY IS SKEWNESS IMPORTANT?* • Helps us understand the shape of a distribution. • Helps identify asymmetry in datasets. • Supports exploratory data analysis. • Helps analysts interpret income, sales, test scores, and other real-world data. • Provides useful context when choosing statistical summaries and analytical methods. 🎯 *WHO SHOULD WATCH THIS VIDEO?* • Aspiring Data Analysts • Aspiring Data Scientists • Students learning Statistics and Probability • Beginners studying Descriptive Statistics • Aspiring Machine Learning Engineers • Anyone interested in understanding data distributions ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📚 *WATCH THE COMPLETE STATISTICS & PROBABILITY SERIES* 📂 *Complete Statistics & Probability Playlist*    • Statistics & Probability for Data Science ...   ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 💬 *QUESTION OF THE DAY* A distribution has a longer tail towards the right.
