Buckdancer Thomas Maupin at the Homeplace

National buckdance champion and a Tennessee treasure, Thomas Maupin danced his way into our lives at the 2013 Homeplace Pickin' Party Old Time Music Festival. Thomas danced as his 19-year old grandson, Daniel Rothwell, played banjo with his band that included his dad, Danny Rothwell. According to Nina Cardona of Nashville NPR Radio 90.3 WPLN "Buckdancing is the ancestor of clogging and tap dance. There's no choreography, no costumes. All you need are a pair of shoes that make a nice sound on a wooden floor, maybe some metal taps screwed on the sole if you're serious about it.
