Our First $1,000 + Screwup

We took a chance on digging up and transplanting our maple trees that we first planted 9 years ago. Looks like they're toast. Just part of the process to build our homestead I guess. #excavation #foreverhome #homestead #transplanting We're building our forever home from the ground up — and documenting the entire real journey. After 9 years in an 1860s farmhouse, we're starting a new chapter: planning, designing, and building our new home on family land in the Midwest, completely from scratch. Follow along for dirt work, foundations, framing, finishes, and every win, setback, and lesson in between. New episodes weekly — subscribe to follow the build from day one. The house is just the beginning. Long-term, this channel is about building a full rural life: turning our land into a working homestead with gardens, regenerative practices, food production, and a more self-sufficient way of living. It's not just about building a house — it's about building a rural life. 📷 Behind-the-scenes updates on Instagram: @buildingrural
