Son Doong Cave Expedition 2026

In the spring of 2026 a group of international adventurers and myself began hiking through the deep recesses of Vietnam's ancient jungles, lead by the professional guides of the Oxalis Group. After waiting over a year for this once in a life time opportunity, our journey finally began at the Oxalis commander lodge in Phong Nha. After our briefing on jungle safety and meeting our expedition leader and medical officer. We were further educated on what to expect while navigating the unique biome of the subterranean landscape. Formed millions of years ago, this colossal cathedral of time formed giant skylights through the sinkholes in its ceiling. This formation invited the jungle back into the cave and allowed the formation of its very own weather system; contributing to the 7 new species found in the Son Doong Cave. In combination with the lush tropical rainforest, and the unique geological formations that were nothing short of otherworldly; much of our trek brought us back to what felt like the Jurassic period. It would be hard to fathom just how well we'd fair against such terrain but being accompanied by a world class crew of 30 personnel across teams of porters, chefs and expert guides – Oxalis adventures truly had us living like kings and queens while being able to safely enjoy the adventure of a lifetime. Most importantly, we’re eternally grateful to the Bru-Van Kieu people for sharing this treasured experience with us.
