Montserrat Caballé is heard near the end of her illustrious career in this intimate evening from London’s Smith Square Hall. One of the great sopranos of the 20th century, celebrated for the beauty of her voice, her legendary breath control and her bel canto artistry, Caballé appears here in relaxed, unbuttoned form, joined by tenor Oscar Marín and pianist Manuel Burgueras. The wide-ranging programme moves from Italian song and opera to French mélodie, Spanish zarzuela and operetta, offering a warmly informal portrait of a singer whose artistry and charisma remained unmistakable.
