Stepping out into a massive, unprotected adult enclosure is a terrifying milestone for a young ape used to the safety of a nursery. Nine-year-old orangutan Mimi ventures outside but immediately relies on her old nursery habits, attempting to scale the perimeter mesh. She grabs the active electric fence, taking a shock that sends her scurrying back indoors to sulk for the rest of the day. The next morning, a terrified Mimi completely refuses to leave her bedroom. Witness the delicate psychological work of the sanctuary keepers as they use fresh juice and browse to slowly rebuild the young ape's shattered confidence and coax her back into the canopy.
