Join me on a bike ride across New York's East River bridges: from Manhattan over the Queensboro Bridge to Queens, over the Pulaski Bridge into Brooklyn, back to Manhattan on the Williamsburg Bridge, out to Brooklyn again on the Manhattan Bridge, and back to Manhattan across the Brooklyn Bridge. Five crossings, three boroughs and 11.2 miles (18 km) on a sunny October day, sped up to just over seven minutes.
Each bridge comes with a few facts, from the Brooklyn Bridge of 1883 to the Pulaski Bridge of 1954. In between are the sights along the way: the Roosevelt Island Tramway, the Queensbridge Houses, the Williamsburgh Savings Bank, the J, M and Z trains on the Williamsburg Bridge, Essex Market and the Tenement Museum, DUMBO, and at the end the Woolworth Building and the Municipal Building.
