Step quietly into the Song dynasty court through the small objects that once passed between workshops, storerooms, desks, tea tables, gardens, archives, and human hands. Rather than rebuilding an imaginary perfect palace, this relaxing history follows surviving ceramics, fan paintings, brushes, inkstones, silk, bronzes, scrolls, seals, lacquer, and other material traces. Beginning with Northern Song Kaifeng and continuing to the Southern Song court at Lin'an, present-day Hangzhou, the journey explores scholar-officials, palace attendants, artisans, imperial collecting, examinations, printing, painting, tea culture, ceramics, textile production, gardens, West Lake, and the artistic world associated with figures including Emperor Huizong. Along the way, we consider how refined court objects depended on much wider networks of clay, fuel, paper, silk, transport, markets, workshops, administrative labor, and regional trade. The documentary also follows the disruptions of conquest and dynastic change before examining how later collectors, archaeologists, conservators, and museums shaped what remains visible today. Where attribution, provenance, or historical reconstruction remains uncertain, those limits are kept visible rather than replaced with invented scenes or confident legends. Surviving objects can tell us a great deal, but they also remind us how much ordinary material life has disappeared. Settle in for a slow, detailed journey through Song dynasty art and everyday court life, made for quiet listening, studying, relaxing, or falling asleep. #SongDynasty #ChineseHistory #SleepHistory
