"Paddelbuch: How Kiro Changed the Game" by Chris Bingham, Fujitsu

Chris Bingham, CTO Switzerland at Fujitsu, returns two years after his first talk to describe modernizing Paddelbuch, an open-source app for Swiss paddle sports that serves roughly 1,000 to 1,200 sessions a month. He moves it off an aging Gatsby, React and AWS Amplify stack with Contentful as CMS onto Jekyll, using the AI coding tool Kiro, and contrasts a failed one-shot prompt with the spec-driven, test-driven approach that worked. Along the way Kiro's first naive implementation burned through his entire monthly Contentful API quota, and he built an AI testing pipeline on AWS Step Functions to check about 2,500 pages. He closes with an audience test of hand-written against AI-written code, and argues that AI dependency is a project risk with consequences for sovereignty and business continuity.
