The Amazing Story of Prophet Sulaiman (AS) — A Story of Knowledge, Power, Gratitude and Faith In this video, we present the remarkable story of Prophet Sulaiman (Solomon), peace be upon him, based on the accounts mentioned in the Holy Qur’an and authentic narrations from the Sunnah. Prophet Sulaiman (AS) was the son of Prophet Dawud (David), peace be upon him. Allah blessed both Dawud (AS) and Sulaiman (AS) with knowledge and wisdom. The Qur’an tells us that Sulaiman (AS) inherited Dawud (AS), and Allah gave him the special ability to understand the language of birds. Allah also gathered for Sulaiman (AS) an extraordinary army consisting of humans, jinn and birds, all arranged in disciplined ranks. One of the most beautiful moments in his story is the Valley of the Ants. When Sulaiman (AS) and his army approached the valley, an ant warned the other ants to enter their homes so that they would not be crushed unknowingly. Sulaiman (AS) understood the ant’s speech, smiled, and turned to Allah with a beautiful prayer asking Him to help him remain grateful for His blessings. This teaches us that even with an extraordinary kingdom, a believer should remain humble and thankful to Allah. Another major part of the story is the Hoopoe bird (Hudhud). When Sulaiman (AS) noticed that the hoopoe was absent, the bird later returned with news about the people of Sheba (Saba’) and their queen. The Qur’an describes how the people were worshipping the sun instead of Allah. Sulaiman (AS) then sent a message inviting the people of Sheba to submit to Allah. The Queen of Sheba consulted her advisers and eventually came to Sulaiman (AS). Before her arrival, her throne was brought before Sulaiman (AS) by Allah’s permission. Sulaiman (AS) immediately recognized this as a test and a blessing from his Lord, saying that it was meant to test whether he would be grateful or ungrateful. The Qur’an then describes the remarkable scene of the glass palace. The Queen initially thought the floor was a body of water. After realizing that it was a glass surface, she acknowledged her mistake and declared her submission to Allah, the Lord of the worlds. The Qur’an also tells us that Allah subjected the wind to Sulaiman (AS), and that some of the jinn worked for him by Allah’s command. These were extraordinary blessings granted by Allah. Sulaiman (AS) also made a powerful supplication: “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower.” Qur’an — Surah Sad 38:35 The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also mentioned Sulaiman (AS) in an authentic hadith. In Sahih al-Bukhari, the Prophet ﷺ described an encounter with a powerful jinn and mentioned that he remembered the supplication of his brother Sulaiman (AS) for a unique kingdom, so he did not bind the jinn. Finally, the Qur’an describes the death of Sulaiman (AS). He died while leaning upon his staff, and the jinn did not realize his death until a creature of the earth caused the staff to collapse and he fell. This demonstrated that the jinn do not possess knowledge of the unseen.
