Dan was one of Jacob’s twelve sons, born through Bilhah and later remembered through a powerful tribe, Samson, and Jacob’s mysterious serpent prophecy.
In this video, you will understand Dan’s complete biblical journey—from his birth and tribal rise to territorial struggle, spiritual compromise, judgment, and the hope of restoration.
Dan’s personal life receives very little attention in Scripture, but his descendants became one of Israel’s largest tribes. Jacob declared that Dan would judge his people and compared him to a serpent beside the road capable of bringing down a stronger opponent.
The tribe later marched as Israel’s rear guard, struggled to possess its allotted land, produced Samson, and eventually conquered Laish and renamed it Dan. Yet the northern city also became associated with unauthorized worship and later one of Jeroboam’s golden-calf sanctuaries.
Dan’s history therefore combines strength and weakness, strategic ability and spiritual danger. Although Dan is absent from the tribal list in Revelation 7, Scripture does not explain why, and Ezekiel later includes Dan in a vision of restored tribal inheritance.

📝 NOTE ON INTERPRETATION
The biblical text directly identifies Dan as Jacob’s son through Bilhah, records Jacob’s words that Dan would judge his people and be like a serpent beside the road, describes the tribe’s size and military role, its inheritance, Samson’s Danite identity, the conquest of Laish, and the later religious significance of the city of Dan.
However, Scripture never explicitly states that Samson, the conquest of Laish, Dan’s military strategy, or any other single historical event directly “fulfilled” Jacob’s serpent prophecy. Connections between those events and the serpent image are literary and historical interpretations.
The serpent image should also not automatically be interpreted as meaning that Dan was satanic or directly connected to the serpent of Eden.
Likewise, Revelation 7 does omit Dan from its tribal list, but Revelation does not explain why. Claims that Dan was permanently rejected, that the Antichrist must come from Dan, or that a particular modern nation represents the tribe of Dan belong to later speculation rather than explicit biblical teaching.
