TARGET BIRD: Little Blue Heron | A Birding & Wildlife Photography Adventure

Today’s target is the Little Blue Heron! I headed out to the wetlands hoping to find and photograph one of my favorite wading birds. Along the way, the trip turned into much more than just searching for the target bird, with white-tailed deer, insects, other herons, and plenty of wildlife activity showing up throughout the morning. Little Blue Herons are especially interesting because the young birds look completely different from the adults. Juveniles start out almost entirely white before gradually molting into the slate-blue plumage we associate with an adult Little Blue Heron. Stay to the end to see a photo of an immature Little Blue Heron in the middle of that transformation.
