I Stepped Inside a 1000-Year-Old Monastery! 😮 | Tabo, Spiti Valley

Day 9 of my Solo Spiti Motorcycle Expedition 2026. 🏍️🏔️ Today I slow down and explore one of the most historically fascinating places in Spiti Valley — **Tabo**. At the heart of the village stands **Tabo Monastery**, an ancient Buddhist monastery dating back more than 1,000 years. The monastery is often referred to as the **“Ajanta of the Himalayas”**, thanks to its remarkable ancient murals, sculptures and traditional Indo-Tibetan architecture. In this episode, I go beyond simply visiting the monastery. I explore the old mud-built structures, stupas, architecture and the fascinating history behind this ancient place, while sharing what I learned through face-cam narration and voice-over. I also take a short ride outside Tabo to visit the magnificent **Guru Padmasambhava statue in Lari village**.
