Today is route 266’s first day back in Metroline Travel operation from Cricklewood (W) Bus Garage with temporary hybrid buses. These buses are a temporary allocation until the electrics are ready to enter service. Route 266 was introduced in 1962, operated by Cricklewood (W) Bus Garage operated by Metroline Travel until May 2012, when the route was awarded to First London, from Atlas Road (AS) Bus Garage. In June 2013, First London became bankrupt, which meant that garages that were under First London were no longer run by it. The garages: Lea Interchange (LI), Westbourne Park (X) and Atlas Road (AS) Bus Garages were now run by a new company called Tower Transit (now London Transit in 2021 & Stagecoach for Lea Interchange in 2022) In July 2017, Atlas Road (AS) Bus Garage was closed down to become a now-known Park Royal (RP) Bus Garage for London United due to the closure of Park Royal (PK) Bus Garage. Due to the closure, all routes formerly in Atlas Road (AS) Bus Garage were transferred to Westbourne Park (X) Bus Garage, and then the route 266 spent its final days in Tower Transit operation. Just shortly after the Atlas Road closure and the trannsfer to Westbourne Park, route 266 was re-awarded to Metroline Travel from Cricklewood (W) Bus Garage. However, Metroline Travel had a 2-year contract with the route 266. In December 2019, route 266 was awarded to London United from Park Royal (RP) Bus Garage which was formerly Atlas Road Bus Garage. The route was also withdrawn between Hammersmith Bus Station and Acton High Street, due to the reintroduction of night bus route N266, since April 2004.
