There are seven faces to your nafs — but only three you'll ever need to recognize to change your life. In this video, we break down the concept of Nafs (the self) as understood by the great scholars of Islamic spirituality — from Nafs al-Ammara, the self that commands you toward evil and drags you down, to Nafs al-Mutma'inna, the tranquil self at peace with its Lord, to Nafs al-Kamila, the perfected self that becomes a guide for others. This isn't abstract theory. Once you can name which self is speaking in your head — the one making excuses, the one fighting back, or the one that's finally gone quiet — you start to see your own thoughts, cravings, and reactions completely differently. We explore: – What Nafs actually means and why it isn't your "ego" in the Western sense – The three-stage transformation the self undergoes on its way back to God – Why the nafs is never destroyed — it's tamed, trained, and made to carry you – A Quranic anchor point for each stage of the self – How to recognize, right now, which stage you're operating from Rooted in the teachings of Ibn Arabi and Imam al-Ghazali, this is part of an ongoing series exploring the interior dimensions of the Islamic tradition — the science of the heart, the self, and spiritual states (ahwal) and stations (maqamat).
