A quick look at one of my favorite Lucas Arts game - Tie Fighter released in 1994 for PC. Lucas Arts improved on their X-Wing formula - this time putting us in the shoes of the pilot fighting for the Empire. I loved the fact that they showed the other side from a "good" point of view, where we're keeping peace and order throughout the Galaxy (as Palps said). So there's no defection shoved into the story, instead we can basically became the right hand of the Imperator by completing Secondary Objectives give by the "Secret Order". In one of the missions we even fly on Vader's wing. Screw Luke and his blue milk. The game received expansion pack some time later - Defender of the Empire, where we help Vice Admiral Thrawn to stop traitor Zaarin. It gives us the ability to fly more missions in ridiculously OP Tie Defender and introduces new space craft - the Missile Boat. In 1995 the Collectors CD-ROM version was released which combined base game and the above expansion, and on top added more campaigns (Enemies of the Empire) and improvements to the engine - SVGA graphics during flight (640x480) and fully voiced briefings and in-flight comms during missions - all thanks to the expansive storage space available on the CD. Some of the cutscenes were redone with pre-rendered 3d scenes replacing pixel-art ones, which at the time looked impressive but looking back at it now I think I appreciate the ones from the floppy version more. There was another version released in 1998 along with improved X-Wing version - based on XvT engine, the graphics received further improvements with texture mapping and Direct3D support, sadly the iMUSE dynamic music was replaced by Redbook Audio.
