For this three-night, four-day journey, I traveled all the way to the Grand Canyon to experience the Bright Angel Trail for myself. After nearly 11 hours of driving, my body was exhausted. But the moment I stood before the immense energy of the Grand Canyon, I felt as if both my body and mind were beginning to heal. The Bright Angel Trail— a trail I had only heard about. Finally, I began walking it for myself. Just as I had heard, the hike down felt so refreshing that I found myself thinking, “Could it possibly get any better than this?” And the scenery unfolding before my eyes was more beautiful than words could ever describe. It was simply amazing to realize that a place like this exists on the very planet we call home. I was so captivated by the scenery on the way down that I forgot about my tired legs and even forgot that I was hungry. Before I knew it, I had reached the Colorado River. I had sprained my ankle during the descent, so I soaked my foot in the cold water of the Colorado River for about 30 minutes, trying to ease the pain. After a simple lunch, I began the long climb back toward the South Rim. But then… I had no idea what was coming. I really didn’t. The descent had felt almost like a beautiful dream. But the moment I started climbing back up, it was as if I had suddenly awakened from that sweet dream. Reality was brutal. I kept thinking, “Surely it can’t be this hard.” I trusted my strength. I thought that since I had made it down without much trouble, I would surely make it back up just as well. But reality was not that simple. No matter how much I tried to push myself, the endless climb just kept going. I truly couldn’t see the end of it. There were moments when even taking one more step felt difficult. 아… Ah… So this was what everyone had been talking about. I thought that because the hike down had felt easy, the hike back up would be just as manageable. That was my biggest mistake. The journey began at 7:00 AM. It took about 3 hours and 30 minutes to hike down, and about 4 hours and 30 minutes to climb back up. Including breaks, lunch, filming, and everything in between, the entire journey took 10 hours and 55 minutes. At 5:55 PM, I finally returned to the Bright Angel Trailhead where my journey had begun. There were moments when I was so exhausted that I just wanted to stop and lie down. But each time, I quietly whispered to myself, “Just one more step.” And somehow, I found the courage to keep going. Maybe a challenge isn’t something only strong people can take on. Maybe it simply means taking one more step even when a part of you wants to give up. After a grueling 10-hour-and-55-minute journey, I finally stood once again where it had all begun. But rather than feeling that I had conquered the mountain, I found myself learning, once again, what it means to be humble before it. I never expected to come all the way to the Grand Canyon and leave with yet another lesson in humility. Before this incredible gift of nature that God has given us, I bow my head with humility and gratitude. And I return home, hoping to be a little better than the person who first arrived here.
