Burn away toxic attachments and clear heavy karma. This 1-hour continuous loop of Ravana's Shiv Tandav Stotram is designed to completely destroy negative energy in your home and auric field.
शिव ताण्डव स्तोत्रम्
Shiv Tandav Stotram — the hymn traditionally ascribed to Ravana, sung to the beat of his own damaru while he lay pinned beneath Mount Kailash. One continuous hour of Sanskrit chanting. This is not a quiet recording. The Tandava is Shiva's dance of dissolution, and the stotra was built to move at its speed.
Press play loud. Let it drive a morning, a walk, a Mahashivratri vigil.

THE STORY IT COMES FROM
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Ravana, king of Lanka, was a devotee of Shiva before he was anything else — and he was proud. The tradition says he went to Kailash and tried to uproot the mountain itself, to carry Shiva home with him. Shiva, without rising, pressed down with one toe. The mountain settled, and Ravana was caught beneath it.
He could not move. So he sang.
He kept the rhythm on his damaru, the small two-headed drum, and composed this stotra there under the weight of the mountain — pure praise, no bargaining in it. Shiva released him, and gave him the sword Chandrahasa. The hymn names its own author in its closing verse: *dashavaktra-gitam*, "sung by the ten-faced one."
The ascription is traditional; the date of composition is unknown. The text is ancient and in the public domain.

THE METRE IS THE DRUM
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Most Sanskrit hymns settle. This one gallops.
The stotra is composed in panchachamara — sixteen syllables to a line, in a strict alternation of light and heavy: *da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM da-DUM*, eight times over, four lines to a verse. English prosody would call it iambic octameter. Read it aloud and your jaw is doing the ḍamaru's job.
Then the text writes the drum into itself — damad-damad-damad-daman for the ḍamaru, dhagad-dhagad-dhagaj-jvalal for the fire on Shiva's brow. Those doubled consonants are not decoration. They are the drum and the crackle of the fire written into Sanskrit, and they are the signature of the stotra.

THE OPENING VERSE
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
damad-damad-damad-daman-ninada-vaddamarvayam
chakara chanda-tandavam tanotu nah shivah shivam
Word by word:
• damad-damad-damad-daman — the ḍamaru sounding, in words rather than notes
• ninada — the resonance, the ringing of it
• chakara — he performed, he did
• chanda — fierce, violent, terrible
• tandavam — the Tandava, the dance
• tanotu — may he extend, may he spread out
• nah — for us
• shivah shivam — Shiva, auspiciousness
"To that damad-damad-damad-daman he performed the fierce Tandava — may that Shiva extend welfare to us."
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
WHAT THE TANDAVA IS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
• Not a celebration — the movement by which a cycle of the world is undone so the next can begin.
• Danced as *Nataraja*: one foot down on ignorance, one lifted, the ḍamaru in one hand and fire in another. Sound in the right hand, dissolution in the left.
• Rudra Tandava is its fierce form, Ananda Tandava the joyful one. This stotra is squarely the first.
• Dissolution here is not an ending. It is what clears the ground.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
HOW TO USE IT
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
• Play it at full attention, not as background. This text was not written to be ignored.
• Traditionally recited on *Mahashivratri*, on Mondays, on Pradosham, and at dawn.
• Chant along if you know the lines. It was made to be spoken out loud — the metre does most of the work for you.
• If the Sanskrit is new, follow the rhythm before you chase the meaning.

ABOUT THIS RECORDING
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
One hour, continuous, no ads. Original composition built around the chant — drone, drums and low strings, at the pace the metre asks for rather than a slow ambient tempo. Nothing here is transcribed from, or modelled on, any existing recording of this stotra.
Editions differ in verse count; the body is most often printed as sixteen quatrains plus a *phalashruti*. The wording here follows the reading agreed by a majority of independent published sources, checked line by line against the metre.
