Learn English naturally with Mr. English Unscripted — real English conversation practice for people who understand the language but freeze when they try to speak it. In this episode, Leo and Maya argue about what fluent actually means, and Leo does not like the answer.
Leo says he is not fluent. Maya says he already is. He has studied every day for years. He still sounds slow to himself. He still lets other people do the talking. And he is still waiting for a day that, by his own definition, will never arrive.
Because the definition is the problem. Fluent does not mean no mistakes, and it does not mean a big vocabulary. Fluent people forget words constantly. What makes them fluent is how quickly they start again afterwards. Fluency is recovery speed, and recovery speed is something you can practise this week.
If you have been asking how you will know when you are fluent in English, this conversation gives you an honest answer — and one phrase that turns a dead sentence back into a live one.
Join Leo and Maya as they discuss why tests measure the wrong thing, what a native speaker actually does when they lose a word, and why the day you feel ready is not coming.
This is real English at natural speed, aimed at B1 and B2 learners. If you are earlier than that, listen anyway — you will follow far more than you expect.

☕ THREE TO STEAL
Three things from today you can use tomorrow:
Phrase — "What I mean is..." — say it instead of abandoning the sentence
Grammar — I have been learning English for five years, the present perfect continuous
Sound — word stress, FLU-ent not flu-ENT, and why the wrong stress costs you more than the wrong word
Then say all three out loud. Reading them does nothing.
