Whenever I drive into Beijing, I prefer to avoid the expressways and major national highways. The checkpoints along those routes can be incredibly frustrating. On the smaller roads, however, the checkpoints are usually unattended, so I can simply pass through. This journey starts in Xiaonanxinbao Town, Huailai County, Zhangjiakou, Hebei.
