The Missing Second | Felsa 4009 Restoration
A forgotten Finnish watch brand. A Swiss automatic movement. And a missing second hand with a story behind it.
At first glance, this vintage Leopard looks like a classic Swiss automatic from another era. But behind its silver sunburst dial lies a fascinating combination of Finnish watchmaking history and Swiss mechanical engineering.
Leopard was a watch brand associated with the Finnish watch trade, with timepieces manufactured in Switzerland. Inside this particular watch beats a Felsa 4009 — a 25-jewel automatic movement featuring a distinctive day-date calendar.
One of the most charming details is the unusual calendar layout. The date appears at 3 o'clock, while the full Finnish name of the day is displayed in a separate curved window at 6 o'clock. A beautiful reminder of a time when mechanical watches were designed with character and individuality.
After decades of wear, this little piece of Finnish and Swiss watchmaking history is ready to measure time once again.
Enjoy the restoration.
