MorningStar Ministries and its founder Rick Joyner have had 5 lawsuits filed against them and prolific abuse allegations surface in recent months, revealing an ongoing pattern of cover up. Joining my wife and I today is Sarah Carr, a survivor who shares her story of how she was betrothed (and abused) as a young girl to her youth pastor at a Morningstar Fellowship Church. David Fenton, the former youth pastor and perpetrator, used prophetic manipulation to groom Sarah, her family, and entire church community—convincing them all that he had heard from God that Sarah was to be his wife. In this in-depth conversation, we seek to recognize the similarities and patterns we have seen in the plethora of church abuse exposures. From the initial allegations to the devastating consequences, we uncover the truth behind the headlines as Sarah brings us insight into these issues facing the church (as one of the many Morningstar church victims). Not only a survivor, but now also an advocate—Sarah shares valuable wisdom on the great importance of speaking up about abuse in churches and how we can make an impact for change. Fenton evaded arrest for years being on the run in Australia, until he was apprehended in the Philippines. Though her abuser is convicted, her work is far from over. She bravely shares her journey towards healing and hope after living in silence for decades.
