Located in southwestern Colorado, Mesa Verde National Park preserves nearly 5,000 archaeological sites, including more than 600 cliff dwellings built by the ancestral Pueblo people between approximately A.D. 600 and 1300.
Established in 1906, Mesa Verde became the first U.S. national park created specifically to protect archaeological and cultural resources, preserving one of the most important chapters of North American history for future generations.
