In this episode of Surviving Narcissistic Abuse with Jill Wise*, we’re breaking down **10 things narcissists may do when they sense that you are no longer confused, no longer reacting the way you used to, and no longer playing the role they have become accustomed to you playing.* Sometimes the first response is intense love bombing. Suddenly they become attentive, affectionate, apologetic, and willing to give you everything you had been asking for all along. If that doesn’t work, flying monkeys may begin showing up to pressure you, gather information, or convince you that you’re overreacting and everything needs to go back to normal. From there, the behavior can escalate into testing whether they still have emotional access to you, gaslighting, narcissistic rage, aggressive smear campaigns, attempts to control the narrative, financial abuse, threats, intimidation, and post-separation abuse. And this is the deeper point of the episode: Sometimes the escalation is not happening because you suddenly became difficult. Sometimes it is happening because *the strategies that once controlled you are no longer working.* You stopped chasing. You stopped overexplaining. You stopped treating every accusation like an assignment. You stopped believing that one good week erased six terrible months. You started recognizing the pattern instead of getting lost inside every individual incident. And that changes the entire dynamic. In this episode, we also talk about what can happen when control begins shifting after separation, including financial abuse, stalking, legal abuse, blackmail, attempts to damage your credibility, and the ways children can sometimes be pulled into an ongoing power struggle. Not every narcissistic person will engage in every behavior discussed here, and these behaviors are not exclusive to narcissism. This episode is intended to help survivors recognize patterns, trust their own experiences, and understand why abusive dynamics can sometimes intensify when control begins slipping away. Maybe the old relationship stopped working because *the old version of you is no longer available for the job.* CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes discussion of domestic abuse, coercive control, threats, intimidation, stalking, financial abuse, blackmail, and post-separation abuse.
