Emma has recorded the same thirty-second introduction twenty-seven times. The application closes tonight, but she still does not feel ready to press submit. Is there something important left to prepare, or is she trying to make a nervous feeling disappear? Learn useful A2–B1 English with Emma and Daniel in this episode of Easy English Learning Podcast about preparation, confidence, and taking a small imperfect step. Emma wants to tell a short personal story at a café storytelling night. She has a funny memory about delivering a birthday cake to the wrong party, but the simple application has become much bigger in her imagination. She keeps changing the introduction, researching equipment, and looking for one more thing to do before sending it. Daniel does not tell her to ignore every real requirement. Instead, they check what the organizer actually needs: clear sound, a short introduction, and a story that fits the time limit. Emma asks a practical question, makes a three-point note card, and discovers that useful practice can have a finishing point. The story follows her beyond the submit button. A real event brings ordinary nerves, an interruption, and specific feedback she can use. One attempt does not solve public speaking forever, but it gives her information that another evening of imagining the perfect version could not provide. WHAT YOU WILL PRACTICE • Describe something you keep delaying. • Talk about nervousness without treating it as a final decision. • Explain the difference between preparation and avoidance. • Ask what an opportunity actually requires. • Respond to a mistake and continue speaking. • Describe a small action, an imperfect result, and a useful lesson. SIX EXPRESSIONS FROM THE EPISODE “Put it off” — delay doing something. Example: “I keep putting off sending the email because I'm nervous.” “Give it a try” — attempt something and see what happens. Example: “I've never joined a class like that, but I'll give it a try.” “Good enough” — suitable for the purpose, even if it is not perfect. Example: “This clear recording is good enough for the application.” “Talk yourself out of it” — find reasons not to do something you were considering. Example: “I wanted to apply, then talked myself out of it.” “Keep going” — continue after a difficulty or interruption. Example: “I forgot one word, took a breath, and kept going.” “Start over” — begin again from the beginning. Example: “One small mistake doesn't mean I need to start over.” LISTEN, SHADOW, AND SPEAK Listen once for Emma's story. What does she need to prepare, and which extra tasks help her avoid the moment of sending the application? Listen again for Daniel's follow-up questions. Notice how a question can gently challenge an assumption without turning the conversation into a lecture. Choose one short exchange and shadow it aloud. Copy the pauses and rhythm, then say the same idea in your own words. Aim for a clear, connected response at a comfortable pace. Complete this sentence aloud: “I keep putting off something because I'm waiting to feel ready.” Explain what that thing is and name one small, realistic action you could take. You can use an imagined situation if you prefer. This conversation is designed for A2–B1 learners who enjoy everyday English about choices, confidence, habits, and personal growth. The language is clear and adult-friendly, with practical examples and natural reactions between two friends. COMMENT CHALLENGE Write THREE phrases you learned from the episode. Use at least ONE in an original sentence. Then answer: What small thing could you try before you feel completely ready? Keep your answer specific. A small question, one application, or one practice conversation is enough to begin your example. Say the sentence aloud before you write it so your comment also becomes speaking practice.
