Sukhoi Su-27 Family - A Legacy of Air Supremacy

Sukhoi Su-27 Family - A Legacy of Air Supremacy The Sukhoi Su-27 family, commonly known as the Flanker family, is one of the most recognizable lineages of military aircraft in aviation history. Developed in the Soviet Union during the Cold War, the original Su-27 was designed to challenge advanced American fighters, particularly the F-15 Eagle. Its combination of powerful twin engines, large aerodynamic surfaces, long range, and exceptional maneuverability formed the foundation for several aircraft developed across the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.
