Black powder and muzzleloader fun, with a Thompson Center 50 caliber Hawken kit.
The T/C Hawken kit had been partially completed.
Muzzleloader fun, the barrel had been blued, but the stock had not been sanded or shaped. A previous owner put some kind of stock finish on and considered it done.
I had to take the stock through the sanding and filing process, refinish, and stain, and glue some of the pieces.
I tiger, striped the stock, to match a photo of an original Samuel Hawkin rifle from the late 1800’s.
I realized a long time ago that I can’t sit around every campfire or stand at every Mountain Man rendezvous council fire.
So I started this YouTube channel to share the frontier know-how and trail wisdom passed down to me by old gray-beard Mountain Men long since gone.
I’ve been followin’ the ways of the mountain men of the fur-trade era—shootin’ muzzleloader rifles, black powder pistols, and attendin’ rendezvous—ever since I first saw Jeremiah Johnson over 50 years ago. That’s ten lustrums on the trail.
Now I aim to pass some of that knowledge along and help keep this valuable livin’ tradition alive.
