Cold calls, high-volume touchpoints, and branded giveaways used to win staffing accounts. Today they mostly win you a polite “no thanks.” In this episode, hosts Tom Kosnik and Chris Ryan explain why tactical selling is failing and what consultative selling looks like in practice.
We cover how to position your agency as the best long-term option instead of pushing for the next job order, and why the real work happens before the first meeting. That means researching a prospect’s industry, local workforce challenges, skill requirements, and turnover issues. We also get into thinking conceptually, using strategic discovery questions, and resisting the urge to fill silence.
We also look at how the sales environment has changed. Buying cycles are longer, more decision-makers are involved, and marketing now drives most of the process through buyer personas, buyer journeys, and brand identity.
Finally, we get into the organizational side. A true consultative model takes one to one-and-a-half years to mature. It needs executive sponsorship, training, aligned policies and incentives, and hiring for cultural fit, all pointed at client retention and satisfaction rather than one-off transactions.
If you lead or build sales teams in staffing, this episode is your roadmap for making the shift.
