Cheat Death is Bugged

Is this intentional or unintentional behavior? I have no idea. Yamato's ultimate is one of the most inconsistent things ever. If it is intentional I still think that cheat death is still kind of niche. Why spend 6.4k souls on an item that only works when you die when you could spend that on an item that works before you die. Only real use case I can see is if you're in the late game getting absolutely pounded by silences. You can buy cheat death and just act as a punching bag or distraction for your team.
