Jehan Alain - Le jardin suspendu - Ben Bloor

Le jardin suspendu by Jehan Alain performed by Ben Bloor on the 64 stop 1898 Henry (Father) Wills organ of Lincoln Cathedral in a live recital on Monday 16th September 2024, as part of the Grand Organ Festival Series 'Our World - God's Creation'. The title 'le jardin suspendu' translates to 'the hanging garden' - a very mysterious, hypnotic, almost exotic sounding piece. It takes the form of a chaconne, though lacks any of the ‘low’ notes you’d typically find in a ground bass piece. Many thanks to Jeffrey Makinson for the invitation to play at Lincoln Cathedral, and James Newton for the audio files. Ben Bloor is Organist at the London Oratory Church and School Organist at Westminster School.
