How does experiencing war and displacement as a child shape the person you become? In this episode of Voices of Resilience, Nagham Oufan shares her story of leaving Syria at just ten years old, travelling with her mother and two sisters, and building a new life in Croatia. Now a university student studying linguistics and phonetics, Nagham reflects on her childhood in Damascus, the dangerous journey to Europe, and the lasting emotional impact of family separation. She speaks openly about her relationship with her parents, the support she found through therapy, and learning to protect her own well-being. Alongside these difficult experiences, she shares her love of languages, friendships and volunteering—and her wish to support other children, just as others supported her. This video podcast was produced as part of the Voices of Resilience project, which creates space for Arab refugees to share their experiences in their own words and brings attention to the human stories behind displacement.
