Oscilloscope Diagnostics: Finding the Flickering Screen Fault in a Lenovo Y520

When a laptop screen starts flickering, the standard advice is to order a replacement screen or cable. In this video, we use an oscilloscope to definitively prove exactly where the fault is hiding on this Lenovo Y520. I walk you through the complete diagnostic process for laptop backlight circuits. We start on the motherboard side to verify the core signals - power, PWM and the BKLT_EN line - watching the PWM duty cycle physically expand and contract on the scope as we adjust the brightness. After proving the motherboard is healthy, we move to the LCD test pads and uncover the real issue: an unstable voltage drop caused by a completely ruined, glued-down LVDS connector from a previous repair attempt.
