The Florentine Table | Unique Design | Side Table

I'm a big fan of knife & axe making, particularly culinary knives. So when two of my favourite knife makers announced they would be hosting a 2-day course to make a combination of their styles, I was all in! In July 2022 I travelled to Florentine Kitchen Knives, based in Barcelona, Spain for an amazing course with Tomer Botner & Geoff Feder (based in NY, USA). We made a stainless steel 8" chefs knife, dubbed the "Double Agent". The design was a combination of Geoff's famous K-tip blade, and Tomer's signature stacked handle, bookended by brass. It was a brilliant weekend, and the knife design & process inspired me to make this unique side table project. This unique side table is available to purchase, and this particular design will not be repeated - if you're interested please reach out to me on my website https://deerrivercraftsman.com/ The main body of the piece is oak, but the drawer front is laminated pieces of walnut, and alternating pieces of sapele & spalted beech. The patterned drawer respresents the stacked handle design of the knife (which is alternating discs of leather & coloured micarta). The oak represents the monochrome of the stainless steel blade, providing the juxtaposition to the drawer. The piece also incorporates brass dowel pins for the drawer box joinery, and thicker rod for leg stretchers. These elements mirror the brass bolster & pommel on the chefs knife design.
