THE CARNIVAL IS OVER Saturday, 8th February, 1926. Tom Quinn from NSW wins the inaugural midget speedcar feature race on the Sydney Showground. The drivers were competing for the Bert Pryor & Frank Arthur Cup over six laps. Saturday, 27th April, 1996. 70 years and 11 weeks after that historic race, Sydney driver Gary Rush enters the speedway history books by winning the last midget speedcar feature race on the Sydney Showground Speedway, a 50-lap World Championship Title. In between these two historic races, thousands of laps have been run and won on Sydney's famous Royale, often claimed as the most famous speedway in the world. This is a short tribute to the track, the riders and drivers for 70 years of magnificent racing. PLEASE NOTE This is not my video, it's one of many VHS tapes that I converted to digital in a hope to preserve our speedway history.
