Part 3 of the DAMA-CDMP series. This lesson covers three topics from Data Integration and Interoperability in DMBOK2: replication, archiving, and the enterprise message format (canonical data model).
Every term is labeled by what it is: a method, a design pattern, a data model, or a tool. We follow one online store as it grows.
What you will learn:
Replication: exact copies in multiple locations, why it reads the change log, and when it is not optimal
Staging area: why a non-exact target needs one
Archiving: moving rarely used data to cheaper storage, retention policy, and the risk of unreadable archives
Canonical data model: the problem, the solution, hub-and-spoke vs point-to-point, and when it is justified (more than 3 systems, critical above 100)
Example tools: PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server Always On, Oracle Data Guard, Amazon RDS read replicas, AWS S3 Glacier, Azure Archive Storage, MuleSoft, IBM Integration Bus
