Lyrics (original):
Zelen orah savio se preko
Moj se dragi ljubavi odreko
Odreko se, odreću se i ja
Da iz njega jarko sunce sija
Lyrics (English):
A green walnut tree bent right over
My beloved has renounced our love
He renounced it, so will I
So that bright sun may shine from him

KUD Dukat Kosjerić specializes in presenting traditional dances, songs, and customs of western Serbia. Its programs include both ritual dances and archaic songs. The ensemble is known for its attention to authentic folk costumes, local choreographic variations, and the preservation of ancient musical forms, which were transmitted orally in the Kosjerić region. Pjevanje na bas: a traditional singing style with a 2-piece harmony. It is practiced across the Balkans with different regional variants. It uses intervals of the third, quart, and fifth which resembles a medieval organum.
Kosjerić is a small town located in western Serbia, in a mountainous region with a strong rural tradition. Surrounded by villages of pastoral origin, Kosjerić has long been a local cultural center, where music, dance, and folk rituals play an important role. The region is renowned for its authentic folklore, including archaic singing styles performed unaccompanied and based on a natural, powerful vocal production. These traditions are still cultivated today by local groups and residents, and folk music remains a crucial element of the identity of Kosjerić and the surrounding villages.
Western Serbia is a region with a strongly preserved musical and ethnographic tradition, where folk culture still plays an important role in the lives of local communities. The music here stems directly from everyday pastoral practices, family rituals, and annual festivals, and its form is often crude and archaic. Old singing styles, such as izvika and eganje, are prevalent in western Serbia, as are newer "na bas" songs characterized by melismatic elements in this region.
