Kokborok is spoken by hundreds of thousands of people in Tripura. It has schools, university-level study, published books, and official recognition. Yet UNESCO classifies the language as **Vulnerable**. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sources: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Jxhg... 8 schedule criteria: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vaX6... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So what is really putting Kokborok’s future at risk? In this documentary, we explore the history and present-day challenges surrounding Kokborok — from its historical writing systems and the long use of Bengali script to the current debate over Roman script. We also look beyond Tripura to understand how languages such as *Hebrew, Māori, Welsh, Cornish and Manx* survived, were revived, or regained strength after facing severe decline. The documentary examines: • Why endangered languages disappear • The Roman vs Bengali script debate in Kokborok • What the Eighth Schedule means — and what it does not guarantee • How language transmission from grandparents to children shapes a language’s future • Lessons from successful language revival movements around the world • The role of schools, government, universities, families and young creators • Whether Kokborok’s biggest challenge is really its script — or something deeper Ultimately, the question is not simply **which script Kokborok should use**. The bigger question is: *Will the next generation continue speaking Kokborok in everyday life?* This video is an independent documentary intended to examine the issue from multiple perspectives and encourage informed discussion. *Sources referenced in the documentary include UNESCO, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tripura University, the Directorate of Kokborok & Other Minority Languages, and reporting from Indian media.* #Kokborok #Tripura #Language #KokborokLanguage #TripuraHistory #LanguageRevival #RomanScript #IndigenousLanguages #EndangeredLanguages #EighthSchedule
