POV:Your Life as Every Rank in a Samurai Army

In sixteenth-century Japan, a word described the age: gekokujō, "the low overcome the high". This is the Sengoku period told by climbing through every rank of a samurai army, from an ashigaru foot soldier at the battle of Nagashino, through the chaos after Honnō-ji and the rise of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, to a daimyō choosing sides at Sekigahara in 1600. You and Gorō are fictional characters. The ranks, the battles of Nagashino, Yamazaki and Sekigahara, the death of Oda Nobunaga at Honnō-ji, the Sword Hunt of 1588 and the people named come from historical accounts, and some details differ between sources, which the video says where it matters (army sizes, casualty figures, the three-rank gun volley at Nagashino, the start time of Sekigahara and what moved Kobayakawa Hideaki). The climb through the ranks is compressed for storytelling. Illustrated scenes are AI-generated artwork. The portraits, screen paintings, matchlock and photograph shown are real historical images (credits below).
