New York City is one of the greatest chess battlegrounds in the world. In the new series 'Over the Board', Women’s Chess Master Maddie Weber sets out to meet the legendary players who make up NYC’s street chess scene, step inside their lives, and then sit across the board to find out just how good they really are. This time, Maddie meets Marty Anderson, a certified chess hustler who makes a living taking on strangers in New York City’s parks. For $5 or $10 a game, Marty will play just about anyone. But if he thinks you have the money, that price might suddenly get a whole lot higher. Behind the hustle is a story that goes far beyond the board. Marty taught chess while incarcerated, where the game became an outlet during years marked by drugs and incarceration. Today, he says chess helped him change the course of his life and has become a real source of income. Maddie follows Marty into the world of NYC chess hustling to see how he sizes up strangers, makes his money, and survives against player after player before finally sitting across the board from him herself.
