Two men, twenty years apart, prayed the exact same two words to God: mercy and truth. One was a servant standing at a well with no idea if his errand would work. The other was a man facing his estranged brother with four hundred men at his back. Neither of them was seeing the full picture yet - and both of them were already right.
In this teaching, we go back to the Hebrew pair chesed we'emet - mercy and truth - and unpack what emet actually means: not just "accurate," but the settled reality of what God has already said concerning you, whether that word comes as a covenant, a dream, or a prophecy.
We trace it through Genesis 15's covenant with Abraham, the dream in Genesis 31 that reveals what was actually producing Jacob's wealth (hint: it wasn't the rods), Jacob's prayer at the Jabbok in Genesis 32:10, and Psalm 89 - where the same psalmist who declares mercy and truth as the foundation of God's throne in verse 14 turns around by verse 49 and asks God where that same mercy and truth went.
Then we land in John 16:13, where Jesus names the Holy Spirit the Spirit of truth - sent not to create something new, but to take what is already written, settled, accomplished, and produced for you in Christ, and reveal it.
This isn't a video about waiting for a promise to become true. It's about learning to recognize what already is.
