Joseph Haydn was the brother of Michael Haydn,composer, and Johann Evangelist Haydn, a tenor. He was also a close friend of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a teacher of Ludwig van Beethoven. Franz Joseph Haydn was given the nickname "Papa" Haydn as a term of affection bestowed on him by the musicians who worked for him, as he was benevolent of his subordinates, and would often interceded on their behalf.
