A Game Apart is the chapter title of this game in Roger Staubach's book "Time Enough To Win". He wrote that "no game can stimulate like a playoff game or a Super Bowl." After playing football for 30 years, he thought he had already played the most thrilling game of his career, until December 16, 1979. That day he said "was the most thrilling 60 minutes I ever spent on a football field". After he threw the game winning TD pass, he jumped into the arms of running back Ron Springs (the left thumbnail picture) and he said he didn't remember even doing that. There was a lot at stake this day. Redskins win, they are division champs, they lose, they are out of the playoffs. Cowboys win, they are division champs, they lose, they are a wild card team. Dallas game from behind twice, 17-0 and 34-21 to win. Final score Dallas 35 Washington 34. This ended up being Staubach's last regular season game as he retired after Dallas lost to the Rams in the NFC Playoff game. As for the other thumbnail picture, Cowboys DE Harvey Martin is taking a funeral wreath to drop off to the Redskins locker room. The wreath was supposedly sent from a Redskins fan to the Cowboys prior to the game. I had also heard that a Cowboys fan actually sent it to stir up the Cowboys. Either way, Harvey delivered it to the losing locker room.
